Samoan Maori shoulder tattoo design

Hi,

Here's the 3rd design of my latest sketches in a Samoan inspired tattoo set. This design has some influences from the Maori style, but is mainly filled with Samoan patterns.

I started with a pencil and roughly sketched the outer lines, then traced some tribal patterns:

For these symmetrical Samoan designs it's always a bit of a surprise how the final design will look. I only draw half the design and then mirror it in Photoshop. This seems easy, but it quity tricky to design the patterns in such a way that it doesn't have an obvious vertical line in the center.

Here's a picture of half the design finished:

You can order the finished high resolution design right now, by simply clicking the "Buy now" button. Once I receive your payment, you'll receive an e-mail with a high resolution image + a linedrawing/stencil for your tattoo artist.

Tattoo pictures of a "Cesc Fabregas" inspired elbow tattoo

Hi,

Yesterday one of my customers (thanks Ruairi! :)) showed me some pictures of his new tattoo that I sketched a few months ago. The tatoo design is inspired by the elbow tattoo of the Arsenal soccer player Cesc Fabregas, and is in a graphical polynesian style.

The original high quality flash design that I made looks like this:

Cesc Fabregas elbow tattoo arsenal soccer football design sheet flash linedrawing
It has a shark tooth, some kind of an eye and other repetitive patterns.

The band wraps around the elbow and connects perfectly on the outside of the arm.

My customer sent me the following photos of elbow:

Samoan Maori mixed tattoo for the shoulder

Hi,

In my holiday I designed a new shoulder piece, with a mix of Samoan and Maori/Kirituhi inspired elements.

The top of the tattoo has some nice Samoan arrowhead patterns and other detailed elements.
I made a shading for this piece, which I normally don't, but I guess it looks good on this tatoo design.

I used some really simple Maori koru pattern, to complement the detailed Samoan-style.

This design is not a custom design, so you can order it on my website (nr. 147 in the Shoulder gallery), or right now by clicking the "Buy now" button. You will receive a high resolution image + a linedrawing/stencil for your tattoo artist.

New tattoo designs added to Storm3d.com

Hi!

A few months ago I started working on a new set of tattoo designs. At this moment I created 6 new designs and updated my galleries on storm3d.com.

The first design is for the lower leg, placed on the shin and the sides will wrap around the calf.
The second design can also be used for the calf or shin, but it would look good on the forearm/shoulder as well.

The three designs below are designed for the forearm.

Tribal tattoo wrapping around the forearm

Hi!

As promised, here's another design projects I have been working on in the weeks behind.
Forearm and leg tattoos (especially symmetrical designs) are my favourite pieces to draw. I really like the idea of a flowing design that is not too complicated, that gives a nice clean look. That is also why I use symmetry a lot.
This design is for a customer from the UK, he wanted a complete forearm tattoo, wrapping around and having a seamless fit.

You can see the tatoo sketches below:

I started with the flowing koru curles and added a line of spear- or arrowheads in the centerline of the tattoo. Then I made some fills with lines and triangles and the 6 small curls bending towards the arrowheads. Finally I added a few stars.

My customer liked some oldskool sharp tribal shapes, so in the second sketch you can see that I added it to the design:

I get quite a large amount of requests for custom tattoos, so I have to pick and choose the design projects I like best. If you are interested in this kind of designs, for the forearm or lower leg, you can contact me by here.

Till soon!

Oohps, almost forgot to show you the final result :)

Tribal Spider Tattoo

Tribal Spider Tattoo
The spider tattoo has been associated with a lot of things in the world today. For some, thee tattoo can only be a representation of the time you spent behind bars in prison, while others perceive it as a person whose web of life crossed path with the KKK. The same tattoo on the elbow would occur as implying a skinhead who have issues with his environment, a derelict and an anti-everything person; anti racist, anti gay, as well as a rubber stamp of a skinhead in prison behind the shadow of death on death row, murder depicted on the forehead. For other type of societal menace, it's just a reminder to them and others that they had the pleasure of serving a sentence for a specific number of years. It would not be a surprise if the spider tattoos does not fall short of depicting the number of people whom one has given an express ticket to the labyrinth of death.

Maori forearm tattoo design

Hi!

Yesterday I published the first tattoo design of my new collection in Maori/Kirituhi style.
I created a total of 4 new forearm tattoos, which can be purchased here.

This one is also a symmetrical design for the lower arm with some leave/fern shapes in it. I really enjoy drawing this kind of sketches and images, the symmetry gives a clean and sharp look.

The original size is around 24 x 14 cm (9,5 x 5,5 inches), but it's a high resolution design, so you can scale it to adjust it to arm.
Price for this design is 29,75 euro / 40 US dollars.

As soon as I receive your payment, you'll receive an e-mail with the high resolution design (.jpg file) and a sheet/ linedrawing for your tattoo artist.

Kirituhi forearm tattoo design

Hi!

Here's a forearm tattoo design in Kirituhi style, it's a custom design for a customer from the USA.
He wanted an original Maori piece on his left forearm and a Kirituhi design on his other forearm.
The size of this tattoo sketch is 25 cm long and approx. 12 cm wide, narrowing down to 6 cm at the wrist.

First I started to draw the outline of the design and began filling the shape with flowing lines, koru curves and sharp edges.

I sent it to the customer to check if I was heading in the right direction. He really liked the first preview, so I could start on the fill with some tribal patterns.

Here are two pictures of the sketch, the outlines, the total sketch and finally the completed design.

High resolution tattoos and Maori tatoo flash designs

Hi!

I finished a few new shoulder tatoo designs yesterday, so I wanted to show you the finished pieces.
The first one is a shoulder design for a customer from Colombia. I had to adjust it multiple times before the customer was satisfied, but I finally had his approval and traced the pencil sketch with a fibre tip marker.
Here's one of the sketches and the completed high resolution tattoo design:

The second design is a Maori style shoulder tattoo, with some nice flowing curves, ferns and koru.
This tatoo has some nice fills, not too dense, a bit like the Robbie Williams tattoo.
Also again the first sketch and the high resolution final tattoo:

I made a video/tutorial on how I created this tatou design. You can see me tracing the image with a black marker. The youtube movie is on the righthand side of this article.

custom maori / kirituhi tattoo design by tatoo designer Mark Storm

Hey!

I'm designing a large shoulder tattoo in Maori / Kirituhi style and would like to show you the pencil sketch I have so far.

It consists of a few large koru / fern , the national symbol of New-Zealand and the Kiwi people.

Just let me know what you think.

Finished shoulder piece

Hi!

Here's the finished design of the shoulder tattoo I was working on last week.

shoulder sketch mauri tats

Between all the large custom sketches, I worked on a small and simple tat2 design. It's a symmetrical design with a tribal sun and maori ferns in it.

At the moment I have two more projects running. One is a half sleeve tattoo in the style of Sonny Bill Williams as I mentioned a few days ago. This one is in progress and some pictures will be posted soon.
The second is a sketch based on multiple of my designs and the fills are a bit like Robbie Williams maori tattoo design. It's a large design and here's a first impression.

I will get back in a few days, hopefully with some finished tattoos or with adjusted sketches and photos.

In the future I will try to post a small video on my blog where you can see me drawing and designing a maori tattoo.
For some suggestions or things you wish to see or learn in this video, please contact me.

Just let me know!

I recently discovered another blog of a great tattoo designer, Jun-San from Brazil. His website/blog is lifeunderzen.com.
Really simple, but great and creative designs, drawn on the skin and the sharpest lines I have ever seen.
Check his blog and be amazed!

Final Robbie Williams maori style tattoo

Hi there,

I finished the Maori style tattoo design like the one of Robbie Williams.

The final result has only simple fills and not very solid shapes with complicated shadings:

In the week ahead, I will be working on some other custom tattoo designs and I will keep you updated with sketches and finished tattoo images

Robbie Williams Maori shoulder tattoo design

Hi!

For the last couple of weeks I have been too busy too keep you updated on my designs and tattoo sketches.

This week I worked on a shoulder tattoo design, similar to the Robbie Williams maori tattoo.
I used the rough design, but altered it in my own style, so it is a bit smoother and has more fluent lines and curles.

The fill of the design is not very solid, I used lines, triangles and simple shapes to make it look light and easy.

Here are the first to sketches of this shoulder tatoo:

I hope to trace it today, if my customer is satisfied with the total sketch.

Maori-inspired armband tattoo + update shoulder design

Hi,

As I promised yesterday, I am working on a Kirituhi armband tattoo. The size is roughly 8 cm wide and 28 cm long. This tattoo has to wrap seamless around the arm. Personally I really like symmetrical designs, so the here's the first sketch.

I published some tattoo photo's a few days ago, some sketches for the shoulder of a Colombian customer.

He asked me to change the design a little, so here's another photo of the tattoo design.
Smaller pieces and a different kind of filling this time.
Hopefully I can show you the finished tatoo design in a few days.

I try to keep you updated every day, so please check back soon for some new designs.

Cover up tattoo design

Hi there,

Recently I got the question from someone who wanted to cover up an old tattoo.
The design was a faded dragon or horse or something like that.
Normally I don't design cover-up tattoos, but for this time I agreed on turning it into a maori shoulder tattoo, with some nice fills and curles.

First I made a template with an example of the existing design and the space I should cover in total.

The customer wanted a circle in the middle and some curly maori ferns around it.
Total size of the existing design was 2,5 cm wide and 6 cm high. The cover up had to be somewhere around 14 cm high and 10 cm wide.

I print the template on A4 size paper with all the lines in really lightgrey, so the lines are not that visible.
The first sketch was just a try-out to see how I had to work around the existing tattoo.

It took me around an hour to do this one.

I scanned it and mailed it to my customer who wanted a bit more detail and more curves.

The second sketch worked out better and the shape was done.
After some e-mailcontact on the fills we agreed to keep it simple with some basic lines and full black fills.

Next time I will try to explain how to make a tattoo design ready for a tattoo shop, by creating a linedrawing for a stencil.

Till then!

Regards, Mark

Tattoo tutorial for a Maori / Kirituhi design in 5 steps

Hi!

Today I will show you another example on how I draw my Kirituhi / Maori tattoos.
I always use A3 size paper of 200 grams/m2. My tools are good quality H2 and some B1 and B2 pencils. For the final tracing and fills I use a "Paper Mate" marker with a tip of 1-2 mm.
This marker will not smudge when I erase my pencil lines, as many others do.
If you wish to order these markers, just follow this link and search for "paper mate"

First I make a rough outline of the area I will cover.
Then the fern shapes or koru are made in a flowing line and pattern and between these shapes I make some interesting fills and patterns.
When the fill is done I trace the image with a steady hand and erase all pencil lines.
Finally I scan the design and remove some dust and clean it up a little.

Here's a small photo impression of some stages of the design process.

The final piece looks like this.

Any questions, comments or reactions are welcome!

Kind regards, Mark
